FOR GREEN LEADERSHIP
NJBIZ's Green Leadership Awards recognize leading businesses for
environmental initiatives and achievements
HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ (June 15, 2009) - National Retail Systems, Inc. (NRS), a leading
provider of global logistics services to U.S. retailers and manufacturers, has been recognized as
a Green Leadership Award finalist for Energy Conservation by NJBIZ magazine, a leading source
of business news for New Jersey.
The Green Leadership Awards recognized New Jersey businesses for environmental initiatives
and achievements. An independent panel of industry professionals evaluated and judged the
nominations.
NRS has designed several efficiency and fuel conservation programs to improve environmental
performance. These include: idling reduction strategies; aerodynamic devices to cut down on air
resistance; improved tire technology; advanced lubricant technology; engine upgrades; and
speed management policies. NRS also has added to its fleet new yard tractors, called "switchers"
or "hostlers," that use bio-diesel for lower emissions.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recognized NRS for its environmental
performance above the transportation industry's standard for utilizing many of the most current
fuel saving strategies and efficiencies. NRS's national truckload fleet operated by Keystone
Freight Corp. and the company's LTL fleet operated by National Retail Transportation both
received the highest possible score of 1.25 during EPA's SmartWay FLEET performance
evaluation.
