NATIONAL RETAIL SYSTEMS (NRS) INTRODUCES i-DOCK TO IMPROVE
LOGISTICS EFFICIENCY FOR RETAILERS NATIONWIDE
State-of-the-Art Yard Management System Developed In-House Reinforces
NRS Leadership in Retail Logistics Services
Secaucus, NJ, June 29, 2005 - National Retail Systems Inc. (NRS), the leading provider of retail logistics services in North America, today introduced i-Dock, a yard management system designed by NRS developers to improve logistics efficiency for customers nationwide.
i-Dock gives NRS total visibility of all yard activity at its U.S. facilities, including distribution centers and terminals in New Jersey, California, Florida, Mid-Atlantic states and the Northern Midwest. Combining data feeds from live-video, satellite, radio frequency and bar code technology into a central database accessed by an intuitive graphical interface, NRS can optimize the pick-up, delivery and storage of trailers in near-real-time nationwide.
i-Dock has been in development for 18 months and was first implemented at NRS's automated distribution center and cross-docking facility in North Bergen, N.J. The facility has more than 2,000 trailer parking positions. Since implementation, NRS has reduced driver time for pick-ups by 75 percent, increased trailer switching turns from three-per-hour to 10-per-hour and nearly eliminated theft inside the facility. The system is currently being rolled out to all NRS facilities nationwide.
"Today's retailer needs faster, more responsive and more secure logistics to meet consumer demands in America," said Raymond Wisniewski, NRS President. "There is only one way to make that happen and that is through the sensible, cost-effective implementation of technology that will improve visibility from source all the way to the shelf. At NRS, we call that the 'glass-house' effect."
i-Dock has already been recognized by customers as one of the most-advanced yard management systems in the world. NRS is working to develop a means for NRS customers to use i-Dock across their entire networks. The system adds to NRS's reputation for logistics technology excellence earned over 50 years in the business and including innovative solutions for carrier network optimization, load optimization, connectivity and web-based customer reporting.
