Looking at the logistics challenges confronting retailers today, one thing is clear: having access to distribution infrastructure will be critical. That is why NRS has embarked on a Gateway Ports Strategy to ensure the company has facilities near key import gateways to speed freight to stores. In addition to the 200-acre NRS City distribution campus 8 miles from the New York/New Jersey port terminals, plus over1 million square feet of distribution space in Los Angeles/Long Beach, NRS opened a state-of-the-art cross-dock 3 miles from the Port of Savannah in February 2008. Transload and warehouse facilities are planned for development in the Pacific Northwest U.S. and in Mexico.
The benefits are clear. Having transload facilities near the major
gateways is more efficient, more environmentally sensitive and
better for truck drivers. It means more turns, more revenue for owner
operators with less impact on the environment.
